Care Group Cookout 2008

Last night was our Care Group Cookout at the McNeils. We enjoyed quite a feast and had a wonderful time of fellowship! It was such a good time.

Date Night

Well, Jonathan and I had our date night tonight. And, all in all, it went really well. Jessie and Nora seemed to have a great time until it was time for Nora to go to sleep. She cried pretty hard for a long while, so we decided to come on home. But, Jonathan and I both had a great time at dinner and were able to drive around in some neighborhoods looking at houses and talking. The weather was amazing! We both agreed that we had a wonderful evening and didn't feel like we were missing out by coming home a bit earlier than we planned! Nora was all smiles when she saw us....so sweet. As I type this, she's in her bed, humming herself to sleep! Thank you guys for praying. The Lord blessed us with wonderful fellowship with each other tonight.

Encouraging Quote About Motherhood

"Mothering can seem an isolated occupation unrelated to anything beyond the immediate needs of the family, but there is no more natural way for a mother to influence her world for Christ than through her own children. We will touch few lives with more intensity than the children God has placed in our homes. The implications of this are awesome. Time devoted to our children should not be spent marking time, but as an investment in one of our greatest ministry opportunities." A Mother's Heart by Jean Fleming

I was really encouraged by these words today.
Also, Jonathan and I will be going on a date night tonight. Yea! It's way overdue! We recently met a college student at church who will be babysitting for us a few times a month so we can have some quality time together. Please pray that Nora does well for Jessie tonight!

Scooter Tooter

When Jonathan was little, his dad's pet name for him was Scooter Tooter. It looks like Nora is inheriting this nickname by the way she "scoots" around. She also lives up to the Tooter part, but we don't have that on video, thankfully!

Summertime Friends

Nora and I went to the Knoxville Zoo a few weeks ago with Suzanne, Jonathan, Henry & Benjamin McNeil. This is the one photo I got before my camera battery died. Way to go me!

In Jackson last week, we met two of my best college girl friends for breakfast.
Nora loves her LASCO aunts Karen and Suzanne.
Playing with London. They were so sweet together!

Summer Reading

When Jonathan and I went away for our anniversary to Abingdon, VA, we were able to catch a play at the Barter Theatre. We thoroughly enjoyed the comedy Don't Cry for Me, Margaret Mitchell. For those of you who don't know, Margaret Mitchell is the author of Gone With the Wind. (Don't worry, up until the night of the play, I didn't have a clue as to who Margaret Mitchell was either). The play is based on the true story of how the screenplay for the film Gone With the Wind was written in one week by a writer who had never even read the book. It was hilarious and we laughed so hard! If you ever get the chance, see it!

Anyway, after seeing the show, I got the fever to read the novel that is such a legend and such a classic. I picked it up while down in New Orleans, and throughout the past few weeks, I have been reading my little heart away, unable to put the book down! Although I have seen the movie Gone With the Wind several times, it has been years and I've never read the book. There is just something about reading a good, classic novel, and it has been quite some time since I've been able to do that. Now that I have finished reading, I have rented the movie and cannot wait to watch it again with a renewed fervor and insight. I wonder if I can talk Jonathan into watching it with me!?

Any of you Gone With the Wind fans? Anyone else reading any novels or literature lately? I love to read but seldom have or take the time to read fiction. It was a treat!
