Hello Out There! Update on our Family of Four

Hello World!

We are coming out of the haze of having a newborn, and this is the first time I've been able to sit down to update the blog, check email, acknowledge life outside our home, etc. I must say, first of all, that God has been so good to us. We are blessed with a beautiful and healthy baby boy! He is doing great! Secondly, even though I did have some tearing due to delivery, I am recuperating amazingly well and feel so much better than I did at this time after Nora's birth. This is particularly wonderful since we have two little ones to keep up with at home now. Big Sister Nora adores her baby brother and has been such a joy to have home with us the past few days. I know her adjustments to life with a sibling are just beginning, but so far, she is doing great and has shown hardly any jealousy or resentment about Liam or how much of my attention he demands.

My mom has been here since Liam was born, and she is taking such wonderful care of us! There is just something about having your Momma around during a season like this. She has helped with Nora since we got home from the hospital on Wednesday, and she has been cooking and cleaning like crazy. Last night, she gave Jonathan a chance to get a good night's sleep, so she got up with me as needed in the middle of the night to change diapers, rock the baby, etc. What a gift she is!

Jonathan and I took Liam to the pediatrician this morning for his first visit. It was so weird to fill out all of the paperwork with his name and information on it! I still don't think that it's hit me that he's actually here! You would think the middle of the night feedings would make reality set in, but I don't know if it has yet. Anyway, Liam is continually proving to be quite different from his big sister Nora, and the doctor's office proved this once again.

At birth, Liam weighed 7 lbs, 15 oz (basically 8 lbs.). When we were discharged from the hospital, he weighed 7 lbs, 8 oz (only a 6% weight loss), which the nurses said was great for a newborn. Today, Liam weighed in at 7 lbs, 10 oz. He has actually gained two ounces since coming home a day and half ago! I am telling you, this boy EATS. Not only does he EAT....he POOPS. Sorry to say this, but he is such a boy. We already have plenty of funny diaper changing stories to fill our memories with.

Liam is in the 75th percentile in everything: height, weight, and head circumference. Nora, on the other hand, was in the 15-20th percentiles, and still is for the most part. Right now, he is eating pretty consistently on a 3 hour schedule. He just kinda put himself into this pattern, but it works great for me, so I am quite pleased with how things are going. Nursing is definitely much easier the second time around. I feel like I was more confident from the get-go, even though I had to relearn pretty much everything from how to hold him to latching well.

All in all, I am just very aware of how blessed we are to have such wonderful friends and family to care for us and pray for us and visit us. We are taking one day at a time and trying to enjoy these moments which are already going by too quickly. We'll keep you updated and pictures will come soon, I promise!
