If you are anything like me, it is so easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle and busyness of this time of year. I can so easily get caught up in parties and presents and juggling our crazy schedule that I don't really think about what the meaning of all of this is and just wake up Christmas morning with a fleeting thought about a baby in a manger named Jesus. I have for so many years failed to realize what this really means to me.
I am just a few days in to this devotional book called Come Thou Long Expected Jesus which was recommended last year by the girls on GirlTalk. The editor, Nancy Guthrie has hand-picked several essays about the Christmas story that delve into the theology and practicalness and significance of Jesus' coming as a baby into our world. I bought it last spring and have just started reading through the short essays by various pastors and authors. It is wonderful! The book is 22 short essays; I am reading one a day, so I should be able to finish before Christmas (I hope). I know it's a little late notice, but if you can get it and read ahead, you totally should! Or, atleast ask for it for Christmas so you can read it next year or even at the beginning of the new year. It's never too late! (How cliche am I?)
